“You literally crush it at local updates. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.” - Jessica (Park Slope Pulse reader)

Local News:

  • Over 2,000 households in Park Slope experienced power outages earlier this week due to ice and snow. The city opened warming centers as ConEd worked to restore electricity. See an outage map here.

  • A new $1 billion “all maritime” proposal promises to re-develop the 122 acre Brooklyn Marine Terminal at a third of the price of the controversial plan supported by former Mayor Eric Adams. The new plan was proposed by The City Club of New York trustee Tom Fox, co-founder of New York Water Taxi and of the original Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition.

Openings/ Closings:

  • We are sad to report that Julien Boulangerie has closed. Julien Khalaf, the owner, says he will share an official announcement in the coming days - follow their Instagram page linked here to stay updated.

Julien Boulangerie, founded by Julien Khalaf, brought a taste of Paris to the neighborhood when it opened during the pandemic, and quickly became beloved for its pastries - earning multiple Best Croissant in New York honors, including the 2025 People’s Choice and Best Original Creation for the Paris-Brest. Wishing the team all the best!

  • Mariscos El Submarino soft opens this Friday! Their new location is at 226 7th Ave, Brooklyn (between 3rd & 4th St - previously occupied by Maya Taqueria). Known for their authentic Sinaloa-style raw seafood, like the highly acclaimed aguachiles, this spot is a must-try for seafood lovers.
The restaurant is owned by the talented husband-and-wife team, Alonso Guzman and Amy Hernandez, who bring family recipes and bold flavors from Mexico’s Pacific coast to NYC. Stay tuned for a First Look!

  • Coffee & Chisme, which also has a location in Bay Ridge, has opened on 610 5th Ave, Brooklyn!

  • Casita of Brooklyn is expanding—their new UES location soft opened on Tuesday this week!

  • Laurel Bakery is pausing operations as they plan their move to Prospect Heights, next door to their sister restaurant Cafe Mado.

Business Buzz:

  • Local Business Cool Hand Movers are featured in The New York Times for pushing through the ice, snow, and difficult conditions to get clients moved. In January, the business lost nearly all of their moving equipment and supplies in the Red Hook Fire.

  • DOK has been renamed to Muan House Brooklyn. Muan means ‘fun’ or ‘enjoyable’ in Thai, and Muan House focuses on fun, authentic, family-style plates and bold flavors.

  • It’s your last chance to catch NYC Restaurant Week! Now through February 12th, dine at your favorite neighborhood restaurants with 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners for $30, $45 and $60! Check out this list of participating local spots: Chela, Palo Santo, Park Life, Pasta Louise, Siren Oyster Bar and Restaurant, Wayward Fare, Morgan’s Brooklyn BBQ, Lore, Alta Calidad, La Fleur Rouge, Baciccia Pizza e Cucina, The Dram Shop Bar, Masalawala & Sons, Miriam, & Surfish.
