Grateful for This Community 💛 - a personal Thanksgiving letter
From Vivien at Park Slope Living & Park Slope Pulse
Dear Neighbors
Earlier this month, our @parkslopeliving Instagram hit 30K followers and Park Slope Pulse reached 5K subscribers - bringing our total following to 50K+ across our platform on Instagram & Substack with millions of views per month. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how lucky I am to have this community’s support.
When I started @parkslopeliving (the longest-running Park Slope IG page) it was a small personal blog where I shared the things I loved about Park Slope.
During the pandemic , I began highlighting local businesses every week, and continue to do so today. I’m grateful to have had the chance to feature more than 400 small businesses and meet their owners, neighbors I know by name. It has since grown into a local publication focused on one mission:
Helping locals stay connected to their neighborhood.
Since losing my job almost 3 years ago, this community - individuals, businesses, and organizations - has supported me and my family in ways I’ll never forget. This fall was the first time I felt like I could finally breathe again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🙏
Thank you to my team
This platform wouldn’t be what it is without the following kind and talented people:
EB Atler: My loyal friend who keeps me grounded & always thinking beyond the platform to real community.
: Endlessly enthusiastic about supporting local businesses & full of creative ideas for both @parkslopeliving and Park Slope Pulse.
: Our team’s Cobble Hill expert running @cobblehillcollective with great confidence and care.
: Who elevated our publication in countless ways - she’ll continue as a contributor as she focuses on curatorial projects in the community.
And contributors Randi Rosenblum, Morgan DeMartis, Nick Bello & Audrey Pettit: Thank you for sharing your thoughtful perspectives and local insight with our readers.
Looking ahead
I’m building a better way to give back to locals and local businesses by ensuring our team helps everyone stay informed, happy, safe, and empowered in their neighborhood and beyond.
This means making sure our publication continues to be a reflection of your voice - your stories, your concerns, your favorite spots, and the people and places that make our neighborhoods special.
We don’t amplify fear, negativity or blame - instead we aim to empower our community to problem-solve and reinforce positivity.
As we grow, my goal is to deepen how we connect, collaborate, and celebrate this community - this is your neighborhood platform.
