Prospect Park’s LeFrak Center at Lakeside will re-open on August 2nd. The newly renovated facility will offer roller skating, boating, pickleball, yoga, and more! New York City’s fourth citywide tree census, which is held every decade, is currently underway. NYC Parks is looking for Brooklyn volunteers to survey trees in local parks [BK Reader].
White Bird Summer Theatre is hosting a free theater & arts camp for rising Pre-K and Kindergarteners who have never done a full day of camp! The program includes puppetry, storytelling, art, movement, and music, and is open to low- income families who live in District 39 (includes parts of Kensington, Borough Park, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, Gowanus, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and the Columbia Waterfront.) Midsummer Nights @ Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, 6:30pm: For the fifth year running, the Midsummer Nights series is bringing four evenings of free music to BKCM’s front stoop! Curated by acclaimed jazz singer-songwriter, NPR Tiny Desk artist and former BKCM Jazz Leadership Fellow Melanie Charles, this year’s Midsummer Nights lineup is a who’s-who of diverse rising artists who are revitalizing jazz – and knocking down genre boundaries. This week is Creole (Kreyòl) Dance Night featuring Linda EPO, whose musical journey is a testament to the rich tapestry of her Haitian and Mexican heritage reflected in the vibrant fusion of genres that define her sound. Leland Eating and Drinking House Rooftop BBQ @ Heritage Foods, 6:30pm: Come eat, drink, and celebrate summer with Leland Eating and Drinking House — all for a great cause. Outdoor Cinema: Up @ Parklife, 8-10:30pm: This week’s Outdoor Cinema series presents Pixar’s heartfelt and hilarious animation Up (2009). Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old balloon salesman, is about to fulfill a lifelong dream. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, he flies away to the South American wilderness. But curmudgeonly Carl’s worst nightmare comes true when he discovers a little boy named Russell is a stowaway aboard the balloon-powered house. This film is rated PG.
