Local News:

  • Mayor Zohran Mamdani has proposed a plan to re-design part of Grand Army Plaza. The proposal includes banning cars from parts of the southern end of the plaza and eliminating a treacherous four-lane crossing. The project’s timeline and budget has not yet been finalized.

“Grand Army Plaza is the gateway to Brooklyn’s backyard, Prospect Park — and it should welcome New Yorkers with a street design that puts safety first,” Mr. Mamdani said in a statement.

  • NYC DOT is seeking feedback for a study that will re-envision the public space around Grand Army Plaza. To participate, take their online survey or attend an upcoming workshop.

  • Last week we shared our top picks for rotisserie chicken spots. Amid all the controversy about the $40 half rotisserie chicken at a Greenpoint restaurant (helpful restaurant price chart from Eater), one the best deals can be found right here in Park Slope at La Taq with “The Bird Man” Special. Every Tuesday - $15 includes a 3lb Chile Guajillo Whole Rotisserie Chicken, Rice, Beans, Pico De Gallo & Fresh Handmade Corn Tortillas.

  • Per Eater NY, Vato has been added to the Michelin Guide.

  • Open Call Alert! Arts Gowanus, along with Brooklyn Pride and the Old Stone House, will present an outdoor art exhibit featuring works by Brooklyn-based LGBTQIA+ artists. They are seeking work by Queer artists that explores the privileges and responsibilities that come with being a member of a community. Accepted artworks will be printed on vinyl banners and displayed on the fence surrounding The Old Stone House and Washington Park from June 1 – August 1, 2026.

  • This summer, the puppets and puppeteers at Puppetworks are preparing to take their final bow after their building on 6th Avenue and 4th Street was sold to a developer. The organization, which has been in the space for 35 years, is currently seeking another space. Currently, “Pinocchio” is running through Aug. 9th.

  • A monster truck memorial outside of New Millennium Motors in Gowanus has been towed by the city and turned into scrap metal.

  • City officials are warning drivers to avoid the northern section of Brooklyn’s Flatbush Avenue from late April through the fall as the transportation department overhauls the roadway in an effort to make its more bus-friendly.

  • PureGym Park Slope, which has been closed for external construction, announces it is aiming to re-open at the end of the month.

  • Update: The Cherry Blossoms are blooming! Plan your trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden while they are in peak bloom!

Last week, we asked you to share your favorite springtime activities in the neighborhood. We loved getting your responses!

“My favorite Park Slope springtime activity is walking in the park & then stoop hangs!”- Ann Cantrell, Owner, Annie’s Blue Ribbon General Store

See you at the Cherry Blossoms! 🌺
