Summer zooms by quickly every year, so I wrote this guide to help you make the most of this fabulous season.

My recommendations here are based on years of enjoying this beautiful neighborhood and are focused around the outdoors or something to keep you cool!

Here’s your bucket list for this Summer:

  • Enjoy a seasonal strawberry slushie at the GrowNYC Grand Army Plaza Farmer Market (* price is likely higher now than pictured below)

  • Pack a picnic and immerse yourself at the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Concert Series - this is an annual tradition for me, and there are 2 more months of shows left in July and August. See the Full Lineup. If you don’t get a ticket, sitting outside also makes for an enjoyable evening with friends and family!

  • Go to a local deli or grab-and-go cafes for your picnic-ing needs: Cheese Plate Brooklyn, Electric Beets (100% plant-based!), Eastern District, Pasta Louise (8th St location), luna la mer, Little Honey, Zoller’s, Dukan SYKO

  • Cool down with Ice Cream: Albero Dei Gelati (fresh flavors created from natural ingredients), Van Leeuwan, Goodiez (soft serves and Italian ices with fun mix-ins), Heap’s Ice Cream, Emack & Bolio’s, SkyIce Thai Food & Ice Cream, Bklyn Cream, Carvel, Häagan-Dazs - or grab a frozen yogurt from local favorite Culture

  • Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks @ East River: Macy’s fireworks display returns to the East River this year! The 25 minute long display will start around 9:25 pm. If you’re planning to watch in person, be sure to check out information on public viewing access prior to going. Many areas in Dumbo and Brooklyn Bridge Park will require a free viewing ticket, which will be issued via a lottery. Information here.

  • Enjoy a beautiful patio in the neighborhood - check out our List of Top 10 Patios!
