Top Real Estate News

Here’s a quick roundup on real estate news happening around this part of Brooklyn:

  • Amy Schumer is selling her Brooklyn Heights townhouse. The historic Moonstruck home is listed just three years after she purchased it: “The five-bedroom, three-and-half-bath mansion that housed the Castorini family in the 1987 film starring Cher and Nic Cage was listed Friday for $14 million — an increase of $1.75 million from when she picked it up in 2022.” [Curbed] [Link to StreetEasy Listing]

  • Back by popular demand, the Park Slope Sustainable House Tour - hosted by the Park Slope Civic Council and completely sold out last year - is making its return Sunday May 18, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Tickets are now live!

Do you own a house, condo, or co-op that showcases cutting-edge sustainable technologies like solar power, heat pumps, green roofs, or advanced insulation? The Civic Council is especially interested in fully passive homes for this year’s tour. If you’d like to be part of this inspiring event, reach out to housetour@parkslopeciviccouncil.org to learn more.

  • Brooklyn Prospect Schools has signed a 35-year lease for 150,000 square feet at The Wheeler. the office building constructed above the historic Art Deco Macy’s building on Fulton Mall in Downtown Brooklyn. The new space includes floors nine through eleven, 25,000 square feet of outdoor space, a private entrance, gym, and basketball court. [Brooklyn Daily Eagle]

Stoop of the Week

The stunning Henry Hulbert Mansion - now used by Poly Prep school - was built in 1896 and designed by architect Montrose Morris: “The house was almost alone here on Prospect Park West, which was called 9th Avenue back then, and it must have looked like a gleaming chateau on the edge of the park. Almost all Romanesque Revival buildings are built in dark brick and brownstone… Morris chose limestone for the Hulbert House facade.

The result is that the details and the texture stand out here, even more than they would in brown: The rough cut ashlar blocks of stone contrast with the delicate Byzantine leaf carving, the round and faceted turrets, the bold archways, and the massing of chimneys.” [Brownstoner]
