Scorching days and scattered showers
A few scorching days this week with a few scattered showers here and there, and this weekend is no different!
Check out our Events section below for a mix of activities to keep you entertained this weekend, including NYC Restaurant Week where Park Slope restaurants are participating.
#Tbt of the week
This week’s #tbt is written by Aly Carlotti who runs Get Hooked Brooklyn.
Get Hooked Brooklyn provides unique historical walking tour experiences in Brooklyn. Read more below un this week’s #tbt article to discover more and get a special offer from Get Hooked Brooklyn in the Park Slope Picks section!:
“This building in Gowanus was once a Power Station for the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company. The BRT (which would later become the BMT after the Malbone wreck tragedy) was one of the private railway companies before the city consolidated the system in 1940. The building was built between 1901-1904 in an ideal location (coal could easily be brought by barges on the canal).
In 1972, the station stopped operating and was abandoned for many years. In the early 2000s it became home to squatters and was known as the ‘Bat Cave’.
The building is being turned into an arts space called The Powerhouse Workshop. Their website says the new facility “will house fabrication and production facilities in wood, metal, ceramic, textile and print.” The building on the left is completely new but was built on the footprint of a boiler house that was torn down in the 1950s (can be seen in the 2nd photo).”
Thanks Get Hooked Brooklyn for this week’s #tbt post, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
