Black Nature Films in the Park: The Brother from Another Planet (1984) @ Prospect Park Boathouse, 5-9pm: Arrive at 5pm to enjoy music by Range Music NYC! The film will kick off at 7pm along with a seasonal tea offering from Field Meridians. The Phantom of the Opera (1925 Silent Film) with Orchestra @ St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church, 11pm*: The eerie classic film starring Lon Chaney, Sr. will be brought to life by a live and historically accurate chamber orchestra from the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra. With spooky lighting setting the mood, the beautiful music will echo through the gothic church as the tale of the mad, disfigured composer unfolds on the big screen. Costumes are encouraged! $30.
Booking for Love: LGBTQ+ edition @ The Center for Fiction, 6-8pm*: Bring a book you can’t wait to talk about to this speed-dating style event designed for those whose dream meet-cute is reaching for the same book on the shelves of a bookstore. You’ll meet several bookish babes throughout the night, and if both people are interested in continuing the conversation you’ll each receive information about how to get back in touch. Spirited Stroll @ Green-Wood Cemetery, 11am-1pm*: Join Green-Wood Cemetery’s historian, Jeff Richman, on a walking tour filled with intriguing stories of murder, mystery, unearthly spirits, and captivating oddities. Visit the final resting places of notable figures like Frank Morgan, the wizard of The Wizard of Oz, and George Washington’s favorite dentist. $30/$25 for members.
Halloween Costume Contest and Mini-Parade @ Old Stone House, 2-4pm: Cheap, DIY, creative, and recycled costumes are encouraged in this fun costume contest followed by a parade around Washington Park. Awards will be given in the categories of: Best use of Stroller/Wagon, Scariest, Best Group/Family/Ensemble, Best Infant, Best Pop Culture, Best Classic Halloween, Most Creative, and Best use of Recycled/Green Materials. This is a great event for little ones who may not be able to make the later night parade on Halloween! FREE.
Court Street Spectacular, 11am-6pm: Head to Court Street between Atlantic and Joralemon Streets for Brooklyn’s last street fair of the season! Visit street vendors and enjoy great food and kiddie rides. FREE.
The 10th Rocky Horror Picture Show Live Band Karaoke Halloween Extravaganza @ Littlefield, 7:30-11pm: Brooklyn-based live karaoke band The Occasionalists will dawn their collective garters and glossy red lipstick and play the complete Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.
