✨ Openings: Gowanus’s Hey Clay Pottery Studio is celebrating their soft opening on October 17th! Zeno Nail Bar has a Grand Opening on October 12th and is offering 50% off all nail services through the end of the month. Gertie, a New York bagel shop & delicatessen, announced it will be opening next month!
🏘️ The Park Slope 5th Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) - representing 30 blocks of independently owned small businesses from Dean Street to 18th Street - has released a new safer & greener vision for the future of 5th Avenue. See details here.
🌳 A group of 60 volunteers planted around 400 native trees and shrubs in Prospect Park in an effort to enhance the park’s tree canopy. The planting was concentrated around Fallkill Trail, a scenic nature trail in Prospect Park Alliance’s newly unveiled trail system [BK Reader].
🛒 C-Town on 9th Street will remain a grocery store, similar to C-Town in selection and price range. Check out Park Slope Together for the details.
Zohran Mamdani visited Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope for a town-hall event that included discussion and demonstrations over his past statements on Israel. [The Free Press]
A Brooklyn No Kings rally is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the corner of Prospect Park West and Grand Army Plaza.

Mayoral Debate Watch Party @ Parklife, 7-9pm: The New York City Democratic Socialists of America is hosting a special debate watch party at Parklife! Gowanus Open Studios (Saturday October 18th & Sunday October 19th, 12-6pm): Gowanus Open Studios returns, better than ever, for its 29th year! Hosted by Arts Gowanus for the past 29 years, Gowanus Open Studios is Brooklyn’s biggest celebration of local art and artists. More than 400 artists, businesses, and venues in Gowanus will open their doors, giving the public a rare glimpse inside the former factories, warehouses, and studio buildings of our vibrant neighborhood. Artists will be present to discuss their work, share their processes, and showcase their latest projects. Plus, it’s a unique opportunity to purchase work directly from local artists. FREE.
Powerhouse Arts Crafternoons, (Saturday October 18 & Sunday October 19, 12-3pm): These free, drop-in art workshops are for families, kids, and neighbors of all ages. Each week, participants will create whimsical landscapes, costumes, props & more, all inspired by Powerhouse Arts’ festival Powerhouse: International.
