Openings— Natural Wine Bar Liar Liar will open Friday, January 31st at 285 Nevins St between Union and Sackett Streets. L10 Arts & Culture, a 65,000-square-foot multidisciplinary arts center, opened this week in Downtown Brooklyn. The center will be home to a new branch of the Brooklyn Public Library and host programming for the Museum of African Diasporan Art, BAM, 651 Arts, and more [Time Out].
The Brooklyn Public Library debuts Trace/s: Family History Research and the Legacy of Slavery in Brooklyn today. The exhibit, which examines the history of slavery in Brooklyn, will run at the Center for Brooklyn History through August. Check it out for free!
Thanks to a gift from Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Park Slope’s Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is helping make practice rooms more affordable for musicians by lowering rates. They have since seen a 22% increase in bookings [BK Reader].
Customers and city and state officials show support for Miriam restaurant, which was vandalized with anti-Israel graffiti messaging over the weekend [Brooklyn Eagle].

BAM kids Film Festival 2025 @ Brooklyn Academy of Music (February 1st & 2nd): Adventure and imagination come together at this fun-filled family film program, offering some of this year’s most exciting kid-friendly shorts from across the globe! Featuring the creations of more than 50 filmmakers, one of Brooklyn’s beloved cinematic traditions is back for its 27th year, offering a new and exciting trove of animated, live action, and documentary treasures. Families are invited to come play with Parallel Exit’s walkabout circus entertainers before or after the screenings. Movie tickets are $10 kids & seniors/ $14 adults.
Saturday, February 1st:
Pizza and Glass Painting @ Emily BK (Clinton Hill), 10am: Learn the art of glass painting with famous Senegalese artist Ibou Ndoye while enjoying some pizza and community. All ages welcome. Students are encouraged to use their own inspiration to paint a picture in the traditional African style. For younger students who haven’t yet developed their drawing skills, a book of pictures is provided for them to trace onto the glass if they choose. Ticket includes pizza & soft drinks. $50.
Lunar New Year Celebration @ City Point, 12-2pm: Celebrate Year of the Snake at City Point with traditional Lion Dances, Kids Lunar New Year-inspired crafts and more! Free and fun for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in red. FREE.

Brooklyn Poetry Slam @ Brooklyn Museum, 7-9pm: Amplify the voices of Brooklyn at this series of pay-what-you-can slams, presented by poets and cofounders Mahogany L. Browne and DJ Jive Poetic. Come to listen to poets, or arrive early to sign up if you’d like to join the slam (limited availability). Brooklyn Poetry Slam is a two-round performance poetry competition. Each poet is given three minutes to read their own original work (no props or accompaniments). Pay-as-you-wish (registration required).
