Top Real Estate News
Here’s a quick roundup on real estate news happening around this part of Brooklyn:
“New York’s push to build more housing in every corner of the city — even in places that have sometimes been skeptical of new development — cleared a significant hurdle on Wednesday, when a key City Council committee approved a zoning change that will clear the way for new apartment towers on the border between Park Slope and Windsor Terrace. Two 10-story buildings are planned for the site of an industrial laundry business, Arrow Linen. Forty percent of the 250 units will rent below market rate.” [New York Times]
LONG READ: The Pintchik family, longtime property owners near Barclays Center (including the Bergen block between 5th Ave and Flatbush Ave), has sold 26 buildings for $102.5 million. The sale includes 28 retail spaces and 84 apartments, with new owners Michael and Edward Ostad eyeing potential redevelopment, as zoning allows for taller buildings. While the Pintchiks retained some key properties, they cited aging family members as a reason for selling. The Ostads’ real estate track record includes legal disputes over rent regulation, raising concerns about future tenant relations. [Atlantic Yards Report]
Less than a month since the above sale, the Pintchik family recently bought 296-302 Flatbush Ave. [Crain’s New York]
NYC’s first all-electric residential skyscraper, located at 505 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn, will be powered by 100% renewable energy, making it the the city’s first carbon-free high-rise. [BK Reader]
