Here’s what’s happening this week:
Opening: Brooklyn Granary and Mill will open in Gowanus on April 15th. Patrick Shaw-Kitch, former head baker at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, founded the mill with a goal of bringing stone milled whole grains grown on regional regenerative farms to New Yorkers. In June, BGM will open a Bakery & Cafe that uses their own stone milled whole grain flour. Visit their pop up at Rhodora Wine Bar on Saturday, April 12th, from 9am-1pm!
Every Thursday morning, we send out a complete list of new openings in the neighborhood! Sign up here to get it delivered every week and stay in the know.
Following its sold out world premiere, a second screening of Gowanus Current, by local filmmakers Jamie Courville and Chris Reynolds, will be held at Cobble Hill Cinemas on April 23rd. The film, which was shot over the course of ten years, documents the Gowanus re-zoning process and highlights rapid shifts in the notoriously polluted neighborhood. Read more about the film here.
Solo reservations are on the rise, according to a recent NYT article “Why Is Dining Alone So Difficult?” Conor Proft, bartender at Park Slope‘s Italian restaurant Fausto, shares his take on the solo dining experience.
Park Slope Civic Council’s Park Slope Sustainable House Tour will return on May 18th from 11am-3pm. A $50 ticket to this exclusive tour grants you a rare glimpse inside Park Slope’s most innovative and eco-friendly homes - ranging from DIY sustainability projects to breathtaking architectural masterpieces.
