Spear Physical & Occupational Therapy has opened a new Brooklyn location at 317 Nevins St in Gowanus!
Barnes and Noble announced it will be re-opening November 5th.
Thursday Bread Coffee will open this winter, bringing generations-old Swedish family recipes to life through artisanal breads, Nordic-inspired coffee, and lite bites. Thanks to @theother5th for the tip!
The new CVS on the corner of 5th Avenue & Sterling Pl has soft opened. Grand opening is Friday, November 7th.
On Saturday, October 18, approximately 3,000 Brooklyn residents participated in the nationwide “No Kings” march, marching from Grand Army Plaza to Bartel Pritchard Square. [Brooklyn Paper]

Barclays Center is welcoming a new lineup of food vendors and menu items, including Patty Place Jamaican patties by James Beard award-winning chef Kwame Onwuachi, a smash burger by 7th Street Burger, a spicy rigatoni by Parm, and more [Bk Mag].
Tenants in NYC have filed over 1,100 complaints in just four months after the Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses (FARE) Act banned mandatory broker fees - yet only 25 summonses and three settled cases have resulted so far. [Gothamist]
A new supermarket called K-Slope will open in the space previously occupied by Steve’s C-Town on 9th Street (thanks to @heresparkslope for the tip). According to @theotherfifth, adjoining coffee shop Golden Shovel, which was previously reported as closing, will be staying open.

Halloween Costume Building @ The Old Stone House, 6-9pm: Are your kids’ Halloween costumes ready to go, but you haven’t even started on your own? Need to make wings, a hat, or some other key accessory to complete a look? Let the Old Stone House staff help you jeuje up your costume and get it Trick-or-Treat ready! Bring your materials and imagination to the Old Stone House and they’ll bring the sewing machine, glue, glitter, and know-how. Costume donating and swapping is encouraged! FREE—reservation recommended.
Weekend Events:
Creature Feature Movies @ Gowanus Dredgers, (Fri Oct 24th and Sat Oct 25th, 6-9pm)*: Join The Gowanus Dredgers for a weekend of Creature Feature paddle-in movies! They’re screening our seasonal favorite, Creature from the Black Lagoon, as well as The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. Register for a free ticket to view from the shore or book a seat in a canoe to paddle from their 19th St. dock to our screening location. Costumes encouraged! Shore-side is FREE/canoe seating is $23.18.
Friday, October 24th:
Brooklyn Nets Home Opener Party @ Ticketmaster Plaza (Barclays Center), 1-4pm: To celebrate opening night, the Nets will host a party on the Ticketmaster Plaza in front of Barclays Center from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring basketball shooting games, giveaways, and a live DJ. During the event, fans can also visit the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center - home to the Nets and New York Liberty’s joint youth basketball program and located just adjacent to Barclays Center - for guided tours and complimentary Shoot 360 registration. FREE.
Saturday, October 25th:
Park Slope Open Streets Fall Festival Finale @ 5th Avenue, 2-10pm: It’s the final open streets of the season! There will be three bands, free face painting at Annie’s Blue Ribbon, workshops from NYPresbyterian, fun and games with U.Santini, treat making with Buttermilk Bakeshop, a Sidewalk Comic Art Fest at Old Stone House, “Tots for Life” Costume Contest at The Commissioner, and a Howl-o-Ween dog pop up at The Gate. The 27th Annual Great PUPkin Dog Costume Contest & Halloween Fest @ Fort Greene Park: Presented by Fort Greene PUPS, the Great PUPkin is Brooklyn’s largest and most outrageous dog costume contest. Judges help pick the favorites, but the audience decides the winner! Participant sign-ups are full, but stop by to see the cute pups from 12-1pm and enjoy the Halloween Fest until 4pm (FREE).
Annual “Clean Our Blocks” Initiative, 2pm: Talk with your neighbors, roll up your sleeves, and make our blocks sparkle! Together, we can make a difference! Gloves, trash bags, coffee, and donuts are provided. FREE- RSVP here.
The Scenario 90’s Dance Party x Thriller Mode @ Atolye (Gowanus), 8pm-midnight: It’s The Scenario × Thriller Mode—where pop, hip-hop, R&B, afrobeats and reggae collide with MONSTER Halloween hits. Special guest DJ Ant Marshall unleashes a killer mix of Afrobeat, house, and classics, while The Scenario’s resident DJs Marc Bars & Traumatics keep the floor possessed with nonstop energy all night. Brooklyn FAM Festival @ Prospect Park Boathouse, 10am-3pm: Join Brooklyn FAM’s 5th annual flagship festival of arts and music, presented in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance.
