✨Opening: ✨ Indian restaurant Pangat is now open on 5th Avenue between 5th and 6th streets at the former Curry Mee spot! Chef & owner Soham Deshpande was formerly Chef De Cuisine at Masalawala & Sons.
Byron Neal, a 74-year-old clean and sober homeless shoeshine shoe repair man (from the old school) who we featured in May now has a new shoeshine stand - thanks to huge support from the Park Slope community led by his friend Joshua Waterman! Visit him in front of The Shaking Crab, at 5th ave and President St

Want to go hiking in Brooklyn’s backyard? Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks have launched Prospect Park's first formal nature trail system, with five routes through the heart of the park's woodlands and waterways, including Brooklyn's last remaining upland forest. Explore routes here.
The Park Slope Civic Council will host its first Park Slope Super Stoop Day on September 20 from 11am to 4pm. Neighbors across the community will turn their stoops into mini pop-up shops, giveaways, and gathering spots. Expect books, crafts, clothes, plants, treats, and plenty of good vibes. Register your stoop, invite your friends, and help make the map of stoops come alive! More info here.
The MTA plans to install an elevator in the Smith-9th Street subway station in Gowanus. The station, standing nearly 90 feet above ground level, is the steepest in the city [BK Reader]!
From now through September 30th, fans of The Moomins can visit Tove Jansson and the Moomins: The Door Is Always Open, an exhibit celebrating the 80th anniversary of the beloved characters at Brooklyn Public Library’s central branch. Nocturnal Navigators: Green-Wood Bat Walk @ Green-Wood Cemetery, 8-10:30pm: As the sun sets over Green-Wood’s historic landscape, nocturnal creatures begin to stir— the bats! Join biologist Nic Comparato for an exciting adventure into the secret world of bats. Discover the species that call this Cemetery home, from the agile little brown bat to the striking eastern red bat and majestic hoary bat. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn: William Parker Presents Ellington in Mourning | NIKARA presents Black Wall Street @ Prospect Park, 7pm (6pm doors): Bassist and free jazz legend William Parker presents Ellington in Mourning, a moving, adventurous tribute to Duke Ellington’s timeless compositions. Thursday, August 21st:
Public Dance @ The Old Stone House, 6pm: Join Brooklyn Contra for an evening of colonial era and modern folk dances to live music. All dances will be taught and appropriate for adults and kids 8 and up, no experience necessary! Contra is an easy-to-learn folk dance (similar to square dancing with some swing dance flair) that comes with a free lesson and amazing live tunes! Originating in northern Appalachia based on English and French formal dances, contra is now danced around the country by multi-generational communities. Bringing a partner isn't necessary as folks switch partners between each dance. FREE.
